Magnetic resonance imaging uses magnetic waves to provide the highest level of detail to view inside the body. There is an added benefit of no ionizing radiation, however the scan take more time and require longer periods of inactivity to achieve diagnostic imaging.

MRI is an ever advancing field with the abilities of diagnostic achievements ever expanding. Some of the cutting edge imaging techniques include high definition evaluation of the prostate and rectum without endoorectal coils. MR enterography is an ever emerging strategy to assess bowel wall detail by non-invasive means.
